Amarnath Yatra Transportation and Routes

For the south route via Pahalgam-Chandanwari, you can also find helicopter services from Chandanwari base camp to Panjtarni, which is 6 kilometers from the cave, operated by various private operators.
Main Routes
Pilgrims heading to Amarnath typically use two main routes, both partly motorable and partly foot-tracks leading to the holy cave:
South Route (43 km): Pahalgam-Chandanwari Route
- This route starts with a 43-kilometer trek from Pahalgam, passing through Sheshnag Lake and Panchtarni camps before reaching the cave. It usually takes about five days for the journey from Pahalgam to the cave.
- The route becomes motorable up to Chandanwari and will extend to Sangam after the construction of NH501 Chandanwari-Baltal Highway.
North Route (13 km): Baltal Route
- This shorter but more challenging route runs from Baltal basecamp to the cave, taking one to two days for the round trip. It is mostly motorable except for the last 3 kilometers from Sangam to the cave.
- Once the NH501 from Pahalgam-Chandanwari to Baltal is completed, this route will become fully motorable.

Amarnath Trek And Distance
